1. The grocers will say, “It’s simple”.

“It’s really quite simple.”

- Luke Schmidt, Food with Wine Coalition, an organization paid for by Kroger and other grocers in a number of interviews throughout the state.

Nothing about alcohol is simple and never has been.

-  The laws pertaining to alcohol are a patchwork, due in large part to this complexity.
-  In Kentucky, 55 out of 120 counties are dry, 35 are “moist,” and only 30 are wet.
-  People and businesses who think that alcohol is simple are not the best people to sell it.
- Grocers compare selling a bottle of wine to selling bottles of water. These products should not be compared to each other. One is a dangerous substance, but then…

“Kroger doesn’t consider spirits, wine and beer to be dangerous substances.”

–Luke Schmidt, of the “Food with Wine Coalition” speaking at a Kentucky Grape and Wine Council Meeting, October 15, 2008

Most Kentucky parents would disagree.

They know alcohol is dangerous in the hands of teenagers.

- It is dangerous when the sale of alcohol is not respected and not professionally handled by adults.
- Alcohol when abused is deadly.
- Alcohol is an adult beverage and should only be sold by adults; and in adult settings.

Alcohol is not simple and it never has been.
